I was not planning on a rest day today and so was on the road early, as is my habit. As i cycled through the main street of Lewiston they were reconstructing the pavement and it was interesting to see some of the techniques they were using, which we don't see in NZ.

I had breakfast at a waffle restaurant and met the people doing Lewis & Clark from the air who I had spoken with at Lolo Pass. They were leaving and asked if I would come outside and pose for some photos with them and have an interview. I felt very self-conscious in the parking lot astride my bicycle answering questions and being photographed/videotaped, but what the heck. They appreciated it.

I wasn't feeling crash hot but after breakfast I got on my bike and headed west. Crossing the Snake River I entered Washington State.

By that time I recognised that I was going to be hit by a migraine headache so just past the bridge I checked into the first motel I came to and spent the rest of the day relaxing and recovering. It was a good call since the headache was a whopper, and that was in spite of a heavy dose of extra strength Tylenol.

Come late afternoon it had receded to a dull roar so I went out for a walk to the grocery store across the road to get some provisions. On my way back I found a hair salon and popped in for a cut. The woman covered in tattoos over her arms and it was quite disconcerting to see her arms moving about my head. She had been living out east in Boston but came back west to be close to her family. I met a lot of people who had come back west due to the loss of work with the recent economic downturn. Interestingly, most of them were happy to take the cut in standard of living since they preferred living in the Pacific NW to anywhere else. I can understand this. At least in summer.

I was itching to be on the road again and I was pleased that my headache was gone by the evening. The road beckoned.
